NPR: Ontario’s New License Plates Have A Problem: You Can’t Read Them
Who: Citizens of Ontario, Canada.
What: New license plates are unreadable at night.
When: They were introduced in early February, but have been a problem as of late.
Where: Ontario, a province in Canada.
Why: When a light is shined on the license plates, they are virtually unreadable at night.
How: The Canadian government didn’t think about the consequences of how light would reflect off of the plate.
So What? This makes it hard for police and other cars to identify license plates in the dark.
What’s Next? If there is enough feedback, Ontario government will look into revamping and reconstructing the license plates.
Huffington Post: 36 Year Old Woman Arrested For Calling 911 After Parents Shut Off Cellphone
Who: The 36 Year Old Woman (Seloni Khetarpal) and her parents.
What: Khetarpal called 911 after her parents cut her cellphone service off.
When: This happened shortly before Valentine’s Day of this year, February 13th.
Where: Jackson Township, Ohio.
Why: Khetarpal called 911, because she felt her lack of cellphone coverage is an appropriate police manner. Her parents cut off her cell service before these calls.
How: Khetarpal got arrested due to “disrupting public services” , which is a felony in Ohio.
So What? This is a lesson to make sure to call police for only for legitimate emergencies.
What’s Next? Khetarpal will appear in court at the end of the week on fourth degree felony charges.
