Discussion Analysis
When researching the information, I tried to pick four different beats that were topical. Luckily, I was familiar with three out of the four beats. I have been following the political race closely and was working on homework when Bernie Sanders dropped out. My mom and dad were fans of John Prine, who paved the way for folk & country music. I wasn’t familiar with the exact difference between furlough and laid-off workers. In my experience, I associated furloughed workers with government employees, which isn’t necessarily true. Lastly, I have experience with Zoom, because I use that to facilitate my podcasts and we haven’t had any issues with them in the past. It was a little difficult synthesizing the content of John Prine and the MarketWatch article, because I wasn’t entirely familiar with them, which showed on the tweets. This is different from Zoom and Sanders, because I was extremely familiar with both of those and knew how to address the tweets better, to make it concise and flow together.

Journal #7: Who?

NPR: Ontario’s New License Plates Have A Problem: You Can’t Read Them Who: Citizens of Ontario, Canada. What: New license plates are unreadable at night. When: They were introduced in early February, but have been a problem as of late. Where: Ontario, a province in Canada. Why: When a light is shined on the license plates, they are virtually unreadable at night.  How: The Canadian government didn’t think about the consequences of how light would reflect off of the plate. So What? This makes it hard for police and other cars to identify license plates in the dark.  What’s Next? If there is enough feedback, Ontario government will look into revamping and reconstructing the license plates.  Link:  https://www.npr.org/2020/02/18/807133008/ontarios-new-license-plates-have-a-problem-you-can-t-read-them Huffington Post: 36 Year Old Woman Arrested For Calling 911 After Parents Shut Off Cellphone Who: The 36 Year Old Woman (Seloni Khetarpal) and her...

Opening Journal: Biases

Opening Journal Biases are developed through a variety of mediums, such as media they interact with, friends they talk to and places they go. That can influence how someone looks at the world. For example, if someone views conservative media and interacts with conservative friends, their biases will be similar to a conservative leaning, and same with those who lean more liberally on the political scale. I also think biases are formed through family opinions- especially with your parents. When you’re young, you identify with your parents opinions, because you often times don’t know any better.  My biases come from a variety of sources, including the media I interact with, my friends and my family. I have switched my political beliefs after becoming more educated on issues and realizing how my vote and what politicians beliefs I am voting for. I could change my biases based on how my family reacts and how the political climate changes. It’s important to implement background che...
